GALA KEYNOTE SPEAKER
Dr. Shaun Smart earned undergraduate degrees in Biomedical Engineering, Physics, and Philosophy from the University of Miami, where he was part of the Honors College, and received his medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School. He completed his neurology residency at the University of South Florida and a fellowship in Neurophysiology and Epilepsy at Duke University. Currently, he is an Assistant Professor at UTHealth’s McGovern Medical School, serving as a Neurohospitalist, working with the Epilepsy division, and directing the Neurohospitalist Fellowship Program.
Our gala provides a wonderful opportunity to connect with the vibrant Houston community while supporting a meaningful cause. Let’s come together to create lasting memories, make a difference, and be inspired by Dr. Smart’s words of wisdom.

Buy a raffle ticket for your chance to win a [donation], generously donated by [company] $5 per ticket; only 250 tickets printed! The winner will be announced at the gala on July 26, 2025. You do not have to be present to win. All proceeds benefit the Jamaica Foundation of Houston.

Please arrive at the gala by 6:00 pm to mingle before the event begins promptly at 7:00 pm. The evening’s schedule includes dinner at 8:00 pm – 9:00 pm, dancing starting at 9:00 pm, and the auction closing at 11:00 pm.

The organization’s Annual Independence Gala is our premier event that brings together the community to celebrate Jamaica’s independence and raise funds for scholarships. Through the years, from the inception of the Annual Scholarship Program in 1985, the Jamaica Foundation and its predecessor organization has awarded more than 300 scholarships, and recipients have gone on to graduate and become respected professionals in their chosen communities.
