Annual Board of Directors Election Announcement & Candidate Statements

Dear Members and Supporters,

It’s that time of the year again! The Jamaica Foundation of Houston is thrilled to invite you to our Annual Election Meeting. As we embark on this significant event, we aim to gather the collective wisdom and enthusiasm of our community to steer the course for the upcoming year.

The primary purpose of the election meeting is to elect board members. During the meeting, members of the Foundation with current year membership dues paid as of November 1st, will be permitted to vote. We have extended the membership deadline to Wednesday, November 19th for this year only.

Votes will be counted, and election results will be announced during the meeting.

Your participation and input are invaluable to us as we shape the future of our organization. We encourage all members to attend and actively engage in the decision-making process.

Your support has been instrumental in our journey, and we look forward to your presence at this important meeting. In addition to holding the Board election, we will review the current year and plans for next year. We encourage you to attend this meeting if possible, and we look forward to seeing you there.

Election Notice

Board of Director positions up for election include President, Secretary, and Director. At the direction of the Jamaica Foundation of Houston Advisory Committee, the approved Slate of Board of Directors is as follows:

  • President: Dr. Nicole Bent Jones
  • Secretary: Dr. Cameon McKenzie Reid
  • Director: Peter Ford
  • Director: Dr. Camille Gibson

WRITE-IN CANDIDATE: If you are interested in running for a seat on the Board, please submit your information at this link (click here) or by email to jamaicafoundationhouston@gmail.com by November 19, 2025.

As stated in the ByLaws:

  • Membership in the Foundation, in good standing of at least 185 days is required for nomination and election as an officer, except for the position of President and Vice President. In order to be elected as President and Vice President of the Foundation, membership in the Foundation, in good standing of at least 220 days is required. In addition, the person shall have served on a standing committee for at least 180 consecutive days prior to the election.
  • A slate of Officers will be presented at the regular biennial meeting. Additional nominations may be made from the floor.
  • Elected Officers shall be installed in the month following the election. These Officers shall hold office for two years or until successors are elected and installed.
  • Officers shall be elected by a majority of all votes cast.

President: Dr. Nicole Bent Jones

Dr. Nicole Bent Jones is a passionate leader dedicated to promoting Jamaican culture, education, and community development. Since 2018, she has served as President of the Jamaica Foundation of Houston, working with a committed board and volunteers to foster pride and unity. With over 20 years of experience in higher education leadership, Dr. Jones brings strategic vision, organizational expertise, and a genuine commitment to service. As an artist and entrepreneur, she infuses creativity and innovation into the Foundation’s cultural initiatives. Her goal is to expand the foundation’s programs, strengthen cultural ties, and elevate the community’s voice. Her leadership continues to inspire growth, collaboration, and cultural pride among members. As she seeks re-election, Dr. Jones remains focused on ensuring the foundation’s ongoing relevance and positive impact, championing a vibrant and connected Jamaican-Houston community.

Secretary: Dr. Cameon McKenzie Reid

Dr. Cameon McKenzie Reid is a dedicated healthcare professional and community advocate serving as Secretary of the Jamaica Foundation of Houston. With a Doctor of Pharmacy degree, she is committed to promoting health, wellness, and cultural pride. Her leadership combines professional expertise with a heartfelt dedication to empowering Jamaican interests and fostering community development. As she seeks re-election, Dr. Reid aims to continue strengthening bonds between Jamaica and Houston, supporting educational and cultural initiatives that uplift and unite. Her unwavering commitment to service and community well-being makes her a vital advocate for progress. Dr. Reid’s leadership ensures a vibrant, healthy, and culturally rich community for all members.

Director: Peter Ford

Peter Ford is a driven business leader and current Director of the Jamaica Foundation of Houston. With an MBA and extensive experience in community engagement, he is dedicated to empowering the Jamaican community through cultural preservation and educational support. His strategic leadership has helped grow the foundation’s outreach and impact. Peter’s vision focuses on building stronger connections, expanding programs, and creating opportunities for youth and adults alike. He seeks re-election to continue his work in advancing the foundation’s mission of community development and cultural pride. Committed to fostering unity and growth, Peter aims to strengthen the foundation’s role as a vital resource for the Jamaican community in Houston and beyond.

Director: Dr. Camille Gibson

Dr. Camille Gibson is a respected criminal justice expert and current Director on the Jamaica Foundation of Houston board. With a doctorate in criminal justice, she brings leadership, insight, and a passion for social justice and community empowerment. Dedicated to fostering cultural ties and supporting youth development, Dr. Gibson advocates for programs that promote justice, education, and social equity. Her leadership aims to strengthen community bonds, create opportunities for young people, and promote cultural awareness. As she seeks re-election, her focus remains on impactful initiatives that build a stronger, more inclusive Jamaican community. Her dedication to service and justice underscores her vital role in advancing community growth and cultural pride.
