On February 26, 2021, the Foundation held a general meeting held via Zoom at 7 pm Central Time with an informal greeting prior to the start of the meeting with members and prospective members.
FRIDAY, APRIL 16, 2021 | GENERAL MEETING
Another general meeting was held on April 16, 2021 virtually via Zoom at 7 pm CT, with special guests from Victoria Mutual (VM). VM also donated to our scholarship fund again this year!
Guest speakers from Victoria Mutual – Florida: Chief Representative Officer Suzette Rochester Lloyd, Member Services Specialist Gracelin Williams, and Business Development Associate Beresford Nelson. Our guest presenters gave a 15-minute presentation on investing in Jamaica. We hope to host Victoria Mutual for a longer presentation at a later date, as well.
SATURDAY, MAY 22, 2021 | SCHOLARSHIP CELEBRATION
The Jamaica Foundation of Houston hosted this year’s Scholarship Celebration virtually via Zoom on May 22, 2021, at 2 pm Central Standard Time (CST). Keynote speaker Mr. Fabian Weinstein-Jones, a graduate of Massachusetts Institute of Technology, worked with Fidelity for over 15 years primarily and currently serves as Portfolio Manager at Fidelity Investment. With donations from sponsors and individuals, we were able to award eight $1,000 scholarships this year to exceptional college students!
Each year, the Jamaica Foundation of Houston through its Scholarship Program, provides financial assistance, based on academic performance and family financial need to the most qualified college students selected for a pool of quality applicants. Despite the ongoing pandemic, you engaged in our virtual events to help raise funds for scholarship and cultural activities.

On June 18, 2021, the Foundation held a general meeting held via Zoom at 7 pm Central Time with an informal greeting prior to the start of the meeting with members and prospective members.
SATURDAY, JULY 31, 2021 | INDEPENDENCE CELEBRATION
The Jamaica Foundation of Houston held a virtual Jamaica Independence Celebration on Saturday, July 31st, celebrating Jamaica’s 59th Year of Independence. The event started at 7 pm CT, with meet and greet from 6:30 pm.

Jamaican born artist Lenya Lisa Wilks shared her musical talent, which covers several genres; Reggae/R&B/Pop/Alternative. The Foundation was honored to have the Jamaica Consul General, Hon. Oliver Mair, share a message for Jamaica’s 59th Year of Independence. Also, special thanks to our Master of Ceremony Jose Grinan, news anchor for FOX 26 KRIV and longtime supporter of the Jamaica Foundation of Houston!

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 19, 2021 | GENERAL MEETING & 2021 JFH ELECTIONS
The Jamaica Foundation of Houston’s Annual Meeting & Board of Directors Election was held on November 19, 2021. The primary purpose of the election meeting was to vote on candidates for the Board. Guest speaker Dr. Tamara Beckford, emergency room physician and founder of UR Caring Docs, spoke on the COVID pandemic in Jamaica and travel notices, as well as vaccinations in Houston. FRIDAY, DECEMBER 17, 2021 | GENERAL MEETING & CHRISTMAS PARTY
The Jamaica Foundation of Houston wishes members and friends Happy Holidays and a peaceful and prosperous New Year!
The Foundation held its Christmas Party on December 17, 2021 at 7 pm CST via Zoom, with a meet-and-greet starting from 6:30 pm.
We were honored to receive holiday greeting from our Jamaica Consul General, Honorable Oliver Mair.
Special mention was also given to our Honorary Consul for Jamaica K. Omari Fullerton.
We also heard a music sample from internationally renowned Jamaican Tenor Steve Higgins. Look forward to Higgins’ Jamaica-60 concert on Friday, April 22, 2022, at the Match4 Theater, Houston, Texas. It will be an unforgettable evening of Love & Nostalgia!
The evening was accented with music by DJ Natural Touch, Houston artist from Trinidad and Tobago.
